| With winter now upon us, the CFS and MFS are warning residents about the risk of house fires. Over the past two years, crews have responded to 516 house fires across South Australia related to winter heating and maintenance issues. Statistics show that around half of all home fires start in the kitchen. 43 per cent of all fire fatalities happen in winter time, and MFS Commander of Community Safety Greg Howard warns that furniture, bedding and washing should be kept at least 2 meters away from heaters and open fires, adding that to reduce the risk of fire and surviving a house fire, is to be prepared, keep maintenance up and use home heating equipment correctly. |
