SEAL NUMBERS INCREASING Seal numbers in the Coorong appear to be increasing, despite the efforts of the State Government to scare them away. Interested parties are predicting another year that will see several hundred seals in the Coorong, and the same number in the Lakes. A trial using underwater crackers and other methods seem to be having disappointing results. Relocation and culling methods don’t work, however the Southern Fisherman’s Association’s Neil MacDonald said that more information will be available once the trials have been completed and data analysed.

PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP FOR HORSHAM A support network for sufferers and survivors of prostate cancer has been established in the Wimmera region, as a result of the Horsham prostate cancer forum. Ballarat Health Services specialist nurse Gay Corbett said the group will raise awareness and offer information and advice about prostate cancer, and added that peer support from others with similar experiences has been found to lessen cancer-related stress. The Wimmera Prostate Cancer Support Group will hold their first meeting on Wednesday this week, and for more information people can call Mr. Nagorcka on 5382 1452 or Mr. Judd on 5382 2339.
