PENOLA WOMAN NABBED FOR DECEPTION

A 33 year old woman from Penola was charged by police with five counts of deception, after the woman was arrested fundraising and asking local businesses for donations. Savvy business owners were suspicious when the woman couldn’t produce any kind of collector identification, and they alerted police. The woman will appear in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court next month.

DRAMATIC WEEKEND IN THE GRAMPIANS Emergency services were kept busy in the Grampians National Park this past weekend with a number of incidents. Three women and a child aged 6 were recovered after being reported missing. They had walked 16 kilometres in the wrong direction off track, on Sunday afternoon. A 15 year old boy was also reported missing, but was found before emergency services arrived. A 51-year-old woman was rescued after sustaining a broken ankle after slipping on a trail, while descending down a steep pinnacle. The rescue helicopter was unavailable, so crew had to carry her, winching her out from the steep and precarious location. Police said that the hiker was well equipped and experienced.
