NEW WEBSITE FOR RURAL SUICIDE PREVENTION
Wednesday, 20 July 2016 13:26
Tom Dawkins is a journalist from Naracoorte, and is well-known for raising awareness about suicide in rural areas. He and others, have become “Community Champions” and are helping to promote a new website that will gather vital information about how regional communities are thinking about suicide. The website named ‘The Ripple Effect’ was developed by the National Centre for Farmer Health, which is based in Hamilton, Victoria. Alison Kennedy, from the Centre, said that the stresses of modern-day farming, debt and family pressures, illness and injury, isolation and volatile markets can all snowball, culminating in suicide becoming a seemingly very real option in our farming community. People can share their experiences and insights on the website and remain totally anonymous, and that information will be used to help the National Centre for Farmer Health to assist our rural community members who may be considering suicide. Visit therippleeffect.com.au to find out more.
