AG MACHINERY NIGHT TRAVEL EXEMPTIONS TOO SLOW:
Friday, 03 June 2016 10:48

AG MACHINERY NIGHT TRAVEL EXEMPTIONS TOO SLOW: Road movement laws for agricultural machinery are restrictive and out of touch with modern agricultural practices, said farmers in a recent survey. Primary Producers SA chairman Rob Kerin said that night travel was a big problem, with grape harvesters and windrowers being the only oversize machinery able to travel on public roads at night. PPSA had requested the night travel exemption be changed to include all agriculture machinery and combinations, which is vital during seeding and harvest time. The Department of Planning, Transport & Infrastructure have yet to sign off on any changes, and the lack of action has frustrated farmers, who are being slowed up during harvest, running the risk of involvement with police. The Department was unavailable for comment when approached.
