RENEWED FUNDING FOR KEITH & DISTRICT HOSPITAL
Friday, 03 June 2016 10:46

RENEWED FUNDING FOR KEITH & DISTRICT HOSPITAL:  The Keith and District Hospital has been given funding for three months while the Board and the South Australian government negotiate a new long-term agreement. The current three-year agreement, worth $3.15 million, ends on June 30th, and has been extended to September 30th, while the new agreement is finalised. Keith and District Hospital was founded as a community hospital back in 1954 and is governed by a voluntary board of management. In 2010 the Government proposed to cut about $300,000 in annual funding, which led to intense negotiations. Then in 2012 the Minister for Health at the time, John Hill, proposed to bring Keith Hospital into the public system. But in 2013 the new Minister for Health, Jack Snelling, told the Board that he preferred the hospital to remain a community-based hospital and offered to develop an agreement for "ongoing support".
