| Naracoorte local Jess Trengrove is heading to Rio to compete in the women’s Marathon scheduled for August 14. Jess won bronze for Australia at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, and despite a recent foot injury, she’s confident she’s be in form for a good placing. Jess has been running 160km each week in the lead up to the big marathon. Like other athletes, the threat of the Zika virus is a concern, however Jess and her crew are taking all the necessary precautions to stay as safe as possible. Supporters can send their best wishes to our athletes and keep up with all the news via the Australian Olympic committee’s website - rio2016.olympics.com.au |

Tatiara’s Council has a sub-committee of passionate local people who make up the Bordertown On the Move Committee. They meet every month to advocate for ideas and suggestions from the public about how our Council can improve and maintain services in the Tatiara district. One of their functions is to recognise the achievements and good works done by local community members, and last week, the group awarded local identity Maurice Pilgrim with a ‘Special Effort’ framed certificate. Maurice is a superstar in Bordertown: he walks and rides around the town with a happy smile and is friendly to everyone he meets as he collects empty cans and bottles for recycling. Well done on your award Maurice – it is very much deserved!
